John Dodson Sr (son of Charles Dodson Sr and Anne Elmore) was born Abt. 1684 in North Farnham, Richmond County, Virginia, and died 26 Aug 1784 in Shenandoah County, Virginia.He married Elizabeth Goad on 1724 in Virginia, daughter of Abraham Goad and Katherine Williams.

John received 200 acres on Hickory & Indian Cabin necks from his father's will, half of which was leased for "three natural lifetimes" to Robert Mathews on July 2,1726.He was in Augusta County, Virginia in 1741 when he's daughter Elizabeth was baptized by John Craig at the Augusta Stone Church.On Nov. 11, 1756 John Dodson patented 260 acres on the northern neck of Fairfax County, Virginia and was living in Fredericks County, Virginia when he sold it to Abraham Durst.He evidently moved back to Augusta County on 400 acres that he patented on Sept. 30, 1756 and was living there at the time of his will in 1779.On June 6, 1737 his sons Moses and Charles were put intothe care of the Church wardens of North Farnham Parish and Moses was not heard of until 1753 when he was recorded on a delinquent tax roll in Augusta, Virginia.He was not mentioned in his father's will.
