The Huntress family immigrated in the United States from England in the 1600's.The line goes to George Huntress who is perceived by many as "the originator of all the Huntress's in the U.S."My immediate branch of the family settled primarily in St Lawrence County, New York after emigrating from New Hampshire and Vermont. The St Lawrence County and DeKalb Historical Societies have been invaluable in this research.I also commend my many "cousins" from around the country who have helped me discover the various links in the families.Paul Huntress, Pat Fields, Rick Hanna and many others have been geniuses in their research.
The Sprowls (or Sproules or Sproule) family settled primarily in the Lisbon and DeKalb areas of St Lawrence County, New York. They arrived from Salem, Washington County, New York.Their primary background was Irish and possibly Scottish and their occupations were farming.
The Hockens (Hawkins) family married into the Sprowls family and settled their homesteads in DeKalb that later became the Sprowls' homestead. Some members moved to the Iowa, Montana areas.Their country of origin was English and their occupations were farming.
The Bulson family originated in New York State in Albany county (later Rensselaer county) New York and later relocated to Lisbon and DeKalb, St Lawrence County, New York. There are many variations of the spelling of this name.Folklore has that the family was from "the Dutch side of Germany".They have been very elusive for research purposes.
The research on these families has been ongoing for about 8 years and has taken many side roads.
