John Ricketts (b. Abt. 1765, d. Bef. February 28, 1848)John Ricketts (son of Cheney Ricketts and Ann (Nancy) Cheney) was born Abt. 1765 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania1135, and died Bef. February 28, 1848 in Fleming County, Kentucky1135.He married Mary Ann (Polly) Smith on Abt. 1785 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania ?1136, daughter of Robert Smith and Mary J. Huston.
Notes for John Ricketts:
Bedford, Westmoreland, and Huntingdon Counties, PA were the same at one time or another.
John and his family moved from PA to KY between 1795 when John Jr. was born in PA and 1798 when Jane was b. in KY.He signed an indenture in Mason Co. KY July 16, 1796. (Mason Co. , Book C, p. 525 and 526).

This indenure made this 16 day of July in the year of our Lord 1796 between Willoiam Burke of the County of Mason and State of KY of the one part and John Rickets of the said state and County of Bourbon, witnesth for the valuable considerationof 66 pounds, paid unto me in hand the said William burke by the said John Rickets at or before the delivering of these presens the receipt whereof the said William Burke doth acknowledge himself fully satisfied which he the said William Burke hath granted bargained and sold and do by these presents grant bargain sell and give and confirm unto the said John Rickets a sartain track of land lying and being in the County fo Mason and in the State of KY on the waters of Licking and Locus Creek......

In the name of God Amen I, John Ricketts of the County Fleming and State of KY being of sound mind and disposing memory but considereing the uncertainty of life do make this my last will and testament in manner following to wit:I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Ricketts all of my household and kitchen furniture and all of my corn, pro, or bacon that I may have at my decease and 2 young mares, to wit, 1 a 4 yr old grey mare, the other 1 yr. old bay filly last spring.Also all my stock of cattle be the same more or less.I also give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Ricketts my house that I now reside in, kitchen and stables and all the buildings that I now occupy and $100 worth of land more than any of the rest of my children, or if the land is sold then and in that case she is to have $200 in money more than any of the rest of my children then she is to have an equal share of my land with the balance of my heirs as I may herefafter state.
I also give and bequeath to my grandson, Edward Jones, one sorrel mare 3 yrs. old last spring also all my farming utensils and saddle and bridle.
I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Snediger $1
I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Hunt $1
I give to my son Edward Ricketts $1
I give to my son John Ricketts $1
I give to my daughter Milly Ricketts $1
After my daughter Jane Ricketts gets the aforementioned $200 worth of land or $200 in money out of my land, I then wish the ballance to be equally divided between my daughters Elizabeth Young, Margaret Summitt, and Rebecca Jones.The balance of my horses I wish to be equally divided between my daughters Elizabeth Young, Margaret Summitt, and Rebecca Jones.
I give to my daughter Jane Ricketts all of my lot of sheep.I also desire that if either of my daughters Elizabeth Young, Margaret Summitt, Jane Ricketts, or Rebecca Jones should depart this life before I do then in that case I wishthe ? I have ?to them be equally divided between the other three of my daughters.
Lastly I wish my daughters to to choose their own executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all my former wills by me made.In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seat this the 8th day of Oct. 1844.
