Notes for Hezekiah John (John) Ward:
Obit.-Farmland Enterprise, June 3, 1892. Death of Uncle John Ward.
The subject of this sketch, John Ward, was b. in Fredrick Co. MD, May 2, 1811.He moved with his grandparents-his father being dead-to the Stat of OH in the year 1818.He was joined in marriage to Miss Nancy Lingril July 29, 1834.This union was blessed with 8 sons and 2 daughters--4 sons and daughters, with the wife and mother, having preceded him to the better land.
He removed with his family to Tippecanoe Co. IN in 1835; thence back to Clinton Co. OH in 1840.In 1852 he moved with his family to Randolph Co. IN where he resided until May 27, 1892 when the Master said "it is enough, come up and share with Me the joys of heaven."
Of Uncle John's religious life and character much could be said; he first of all he had a personal, conscious experience, and this was received near Wilming, Ohio during the progress of a campaign meeting in the autumn of 1842.It will be noted that quite soon it will be 50 years since he united with the M.E. Church. In the performance of his christian duty, constancy and devotion characterized his life.He was a zealous advocate of the rules and doctrines of the church of his choice. He was unwilling to try expedients that had the semblance of leaving too abruptly the old landmarks.May this mantle fall upon those who shall go forth to do valiant service for God and the world, and in the crowning day we shall join all the Saved to live forever withe the Lord.

John's death certificate lists his parents as:Hezekiah Ward of MD. and Catherine Ballard of MD.
Pension claim-says that he has been confined to the house and all the time in his bed since the later part of June 1891 and that he is estitute of means and entirely dependent upon charity for a subsistance. He is 80 years of age and liable to die at any time in consequence of which we would respectfully request that the commission make his claim special and adjust same immediately.
Pension claim also says that besides John Ward, George W. Ward, his son, also died at Nashville April 23rd, 1864.Said George Ward was the 3rd son who volunteered in the service; one returned alive.
His pension was approved May 9th, 1892.
Farmland Enterprise May 27, 1892, p. 1Uncle John Ward has been granted a pension of $12 a month dating back to Aug. 1890.He received a check Mon. for $244.The old man is failing rapidly and it is not probable that he will live till the next quarterly payment of pensions.
