Daniel Brown (b. January 15, 1698/99, d. October 11, 1783)Daniel Brown (son of John Brown and Sarah Dexter) was born January 15, 1698/99 in Reading, Massachusetts226, and died October 11, 1783 in Rutland, Vermont227.He married Mehitable Sanford on Abt. 1726 in Sandisfield, Massachusetts227, daughter of Thomas Sanford and Mary Chubb.
Notes for Daniel Brown:
Emilie Telford, 1943, says he was b. in MA, near Boston, about 1700, moved to Sandisfield, MA, married the daughter of a Mr. Sanford, he moved to Rutland, VT and died there Oct. 11, 1783.
He represented the town of Sandisfield in the first Revolutionary Congress of Berkshire, July 5, 177?.
Daniel Brown's will:
In the name of God Amen.The 13th day of August in the year of Our Lord AD 1783 I, Daniel Brown, of Rutland in the County of Rutland, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks to God, thereford calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed to all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection, I shall receive the same by the Mighty Power of God.And touching such ? ? it hath pleased God to bless me with, in this life, I do demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form, that it so say...I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Mehitable, one whoe right or share of land in the township of Brownington in the state of Vermont by virtue of her name being in the charter of said township.I do also give and bequeath under my said wife 330 acres in said township to be laid out in manner and form as the proprietors of the township shall agree.
ThirdlyI give and bequeath to my sons Daniel and Timothy 660 acres in the township of Brownington and also the whole farm I now live on after the decease of my said wife and I do order that my said sons Daniel and Timothy pay unto my said wife 40 shillings each annually from the time of my decease (viz) 40 shillings every Christmans during her natural life.
SecondlyI give and bequeath unto my said wife one horse and one cow and household goods and furniture and use and improvements of the 1/2 of the farm on which I now dwell during her natural life.
FourthlyI vie and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Elizabeth Arnold 330 acres in the township of Brownington to be laid out under such restrictions and regulations as the proprietors shall agree.
Fifthly I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Brown 500 acres in the township of Brownington.
SixthlyI give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Jones 550 acres of land in the township of Brownington.
Eighthly I give and bequeath unto Eli Brown the use and improvement of the 1/2 of the farm I now live on with the use of 1/2 of the dwelling and barn and further order that the executor of this my last will and testament set out to the said Eli Brown so much land in the township of Brownington as shall be adjudged worth 100 pounds lawful mone;y which I give and bequeath unto the said Eli.
Ninthly I give and ordain that my executors sell 4 rights of land in said township of Brownington containing 330 acres each to pay and discharge my just debts and the remainder if any there may be to be laid out in buildings and repairing the buildings on the farm on which I now live and other necessary charges that may arise.
Seventhly I do give and bequeath unto the heirs of my son John Brown 500 acres of land inthe said township of Brownington.
Last I do ordain and appoint my son Thomas Brown and the Rev. Cornelius Jones my executors to this my last will and testament.
In Testimony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this 13th day of August in the year of our Lord 1783.
Probated Nov. 17, 1783.
It has been said that all the sons of Daniel and Mehitable Brown were in the American Revolution.
