Cassander's parents, John A. and Cassander (Martin) Moore, left the Union Baptist Church in Decatur Co., came to Noble Township and with 7 members started the Pleasant Grove Separate Baptist Church, July 12, 1833.It was first held in a log cabin, east of Geneva, owned by Matthew Elder.In 1841, after the cabin burnt, John Moore bought an acre of ground from his daughter and son-in-law Hardin and Cassander Shirley for $16,000 to build a new church.The Pleasant Grove Church stood there until it burnt and the cemetery is there today, two miles east of Norristown.
