There is some confusing information about their marriage; the 1870 census says they were married in Nov. of 1869 and that their daughter, Nora, was b. in Sept. of 1869 so she may must have been born before they married.The marriage license was issued in Oct. of 1869.

Obituary:Vevay, Feb. 10, 1927:Pension Attorney with long record of successes dies:James R. Cole, aged 77 years, 7 months, and 8 days died at his home on Main Cross Street last Thursday afternoon at 1:00.He had been in declining health for the past thirteen months and failed rapidly the few weeks before his death.
He was born in this county, June 26, 1849 to Silas S. and Sarah Cole.In the last year of the Civil War, 1864, when he was 15 years old he enlisted in Co. F. 140th Reg. and served until the end of the war.
In early life he was married to Elizabeth Neal and after her death he was married to Ella Corson.At the age of 40 he married Miss May Skeen, who survives.He is also survived by 5 children:Mrs. George Lazzell and Howard Cole of Indianapolis; Gerusha of Shelbyville; Charles Cole of Piqua, O. and Holman Cole of Newport, KY.He leaves 1 sister, Mrs. Lucinda Neal of Indianapolis, (?) grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
When a young man Mr. Cole was admitted to the bar and he practiced law in this county throughout his life.
In 1886 he qualified as a pension attorney, and he had a record of successes.He was the most successful man in Switzerland County in obtaining pensions for Civil War soldiers.In many cases the pensions he obtained carried more than $1,000 back pay.
Funeral services were conducted from the residence Sunday afternoon and burial was made in Vevay cemetery.
