Descendants of Alexander Page KY, IL, MO, WA, OR I dedicate my desire to research to my father, Gerald Page, whose inspiration taught me that, "Anything worth doing is worth doing well." This trek begins in Kentucky, the year 1821 when my Great Great Grandfather Alexander Page was born. As we retrace the steps of his life we visit many states, learn about the times, hardships, trades, illnesses and watch the personalities of our ancestors come to life. One has to speculate on the type of man Alexander was. It is obvious he loved adventure. On November 19, 1846 in Knox County, Illinois he married Ruthy Ann Clark, oldest child of William McKendree Clark and Lydia Carmichael. Alexander and Ruthy purchased 160 acres of land on Nov 11, 1856 for the sum of $1200.It is here that they resided in the Elba Twp of Knox Co. IL until 1869.This was where their 10 children were born, daughters, Mary Jane, Lydia Ann, Serrilda F., Marthy Jane, and sons, William E., John Thomas, Morris G., Alonzo Newton, James Oscar, and Alva Grant.Morris died in 1863 and was buried in Illinois. Something took Alexander and family to Jasper Co, MO, perhaps the promise of wealth from mining. On October 16, 1869 they purchased 240 acres in Northfork Township, just north of Carthage.Wife, Ruthy died in 1871, the cause still unknown. Her date of death is documented in a Clark family diary. Her burial site is most likely on this homestead. On March 2, 1874 Alexander signed a Warranty Deed giving one half acre of his land for a Public Burial Ground. Today this cemetery is known as the Bradshaw-Kahn Cemetery.Alexander also leased a parcel of his land for mining. Alexander married Mrs. Eliza (Ingleheart) Thompson from Barton Co. MO on August 8, 1872.Eliza was born in PA about 1840. Eliza had a daughter, Lydia Ann Thompson, born in Iowa in 1867.The family appears in the Jasper Co. 1880 census but shortly after sells the land and heads west. We are fairly certain they went west to join their children that had made the trip before them.By 1887 they are residing in Clark Co., Vancouver, WA. On June 1, 1896 Alexander passed away. The obituary states, "He came to Vancouver about nine years ago and leaves a wife and six grown children."Alexander has no headstone; he is resting in the Old City Cemetery next to his two young Boyer grandson’s that preceded him in death.
