|These reports are part of the research I've done about a few Beggs of Paterson, New Jersey who came to San Francisco, CA in the 1850's. Before coming to SF they were machinists in Paterson, a rapidly expanding area that contributed greatly to the railroad industry. In 1849 the Donahue's founded Union Iron Works in San Francisco and shortly after the San Francisco Gas Company.|
William Beggs, James Beggs, Eugene Beggs and Harry Beggs were Engineers & Superintendents for the Gas Company. The three Donahue brothers immigrated from Ireland. Some of this family immigrated to Paterson, NJ.
What's the coincidence between these men who came west duringCalifornia's Gold Rush and instrumental in industrializing San Francisco? There is clearly a connection between the Beggs and Donahues.
