Anna Schaufus (b. June 21, 1856, d. February 11, 1929)
Notes for Anna Schaufus:
Anna was the only child of Antonin and Magelena Schaufus. She was born in home number 46 in Uhersky Brod and livedin home number 49 in Uhersky Brod at the time of her marriage. She was 21 years old when she married Josef Botek.
She had three children all girls. She was 23 years old when her first child Matylda was born, 25 when Marie was born and 27 when Anna was born.
Anna was the mother of Marie and Matylda Botek. She saw Marie go off to the United States in 1903 with her husband Rudolph. She saw Matylda die an early death in 1914 at the age of 35.
Her youngest child Anna died at the age of five years.
Anna husband Josef Botek apparently abandoned her while her children were still small about the year 1890. One story is that he left for Budapest Hungary and was never heard from again. He supposedly the story goes that he went to Budapest to look for work. Part of this story is that he was killed in Budapest. No details on this killing is known. Another story is that he was killed by poachers while acting in the capacity of a game warden. Marie always told the poacher story. Matylda's family believe in the abandonment story.
The 1890 census lists Anna as owning her home on a farm. She was listed as a laundress.
He husband Josef was listed as not living at home and whose whereabouts were unknown. He was listed as being some where in Moravia.
She never remarried and had to raise her two daughters by her self.
Anna's life did have its share of tragedy and hardship.
She was the beloved of Matylda's children after the death of Matylda. From 1914 to 1920 she cared for these children during the trying years of World War 1. During most of these years Raimond the husband of Matylda was off at war in the Austrian Army. Anna took care of Matylda's seven children ranging in age from less than a year to thirteen years.
Matylda's children and grandchildren always spoke of love and endearment about Anna.
She lived with Raimond and his family all of her life.
She was 73 years old when she died in 1929.
