Currently, we know that John left Prussia at approximately 9 years old, working on freighter ships for passage.He remained at sea into adulthood, and finally naturalized in the United States in 1853 in Tallahassee, Florida. John fathered one family with "Anna", which was nearly obliterated in an Indian raid in Montague County Texas in 1870.Only John and 3 children survived.He later married Cynthia Latham and fathered a second family.Casualties of the Indian raid, as well as various other family members are buried in the family cemetary located on the orginal homestead in Montague County,approx 3 1/2 miles s-w of Forestberg
