BLOCH / DZIEKIEWICZ / KWASNY / KWASNEY / RING ANCESTRYUpdated December 16, 2007
My quest to find my great-grandparents began in January of 1998.
What I know of our ancestors begins with Herman RING and Helena BLOCH beginning in 1850 in the areas of Biela, Bistra, Kenty, Nowy Sacz, and Tarnow, which are now located in Poland.During their life times these areas were part of Prussia, and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Herman RING was born about 1850 in Nowy Sacz or Grybow , and lived in various areas including Sandez (Nowy Sacz) and Tarnow.According to records in Poland;Around 1870 Herman RING of Nowy Sacz or Grybow went to Kety near Biala (Bielsko) and from Kety he later movedto Bystra near Bielsko.Herman RING died in Bystra house number 8, in July 21, 1884, at age 34.Herman RING is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice, grave number: F-VIII-2272.
The exact date and location of the marriage of Herman RING and Helena BLOCH is unknown.Herman and Helena RING had several children, to include:
Leopold RING b. 1872 or 1873 and died in South River, NJ, in 1916 (see further records and information below).
Clementina RING DZIEKIEWICZb. 1879 or 1880 and died in Providence, RI in 1929 (see further information below). The Ellis Island passenger database shows Clementine immigrated from Hungary to the United States in September 8, 1892 on the Elbe. Her destination was Bridgeport, CT, and her occupation is servantAlso on the Elbe for September 8, 1892was Adolph RING, a showmaker, and a native of the United States, whose destination was Hoboken, NJ.Could Adolph RING be Adolph KWASNY / KWASNEY?It seems more than a coincidence that Adolph RING is traveling on the same ship as Clementine RING! Adolph is traveling 1st class and Clementine in 3rd Class.
In 1880 Salca (Sali) RING was born in Bystra house number 8. She died 13.04.1881 in Bystra.Salca is buried in Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice in children sector "D".
John RING b. 1883, 1884 or 1885 and died in 1965 in Pittsburgh, PA. (see further information below).Documents in Poland indicate in 1883 a child named Bernhard RING was born to Herman and Helena in Bystra (Poland) house number 8.
Is it possible that John and Bernhard RING are the same person?
In 1885 a child was born to Herman RING and Helena (Leni) BLOCH in Bystra. The child was stillborn and was not named.Baby RING is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice in children sector "D".
HELENA BLOCH was born abt. 1854 and died aft. 1899.Baruch BLOCH was the father of Helena (Leni) BLOCH-RING.We know nothing of Helena's mother.Helena married HERMAN RING about 1870 in an unknown location.Helena later married ADOLPH KWASNY or KWASNEY (a.k.a. RING?) between 1884 and 1893, after the death of Herman RING.Helena and Adolph were the parents of my grandfather; Felix MichaelKWASNY/KWASNEY; a.k.a. Felix Michael RING, who was born in Bridgeport, CT. in 1893.It is unknown when Helena and Adolph immigrated to the United States. It's possible Adolph was a citizen of the United States by 1893.We believe that in 1896 Adolph KWASNY / KWASNEY was returning to Europe. An October, 1896 Trenton Evening Times article states: "The police are looking for Adolph KWASNEY, a German, of Fairfield, who recently lost his reason. His family is wealthy. He was recently discharged from a sanitarium and was to sail for Europe on Saturday."
1899 Fairfield and Southport, CT:RING Clementina, MRS.bds Pine Creek, F (Fairfield) Leopold, rem to Bridgeport. In addition, in 1899 Mrs. Adolph KWASNY is listed as living alone in a house on Pine Creek.
It wasn't until 1999 that an 1893 Bridgeport, CT birth record proved grandpa Felix Michael was not born to the RING surname, but was a KWASNY or KWASNEY.Grandpa died in 1983 and is buried in Adams, New York.
The search continues for the death records of Helena BLOCH and Adolph KWASNY / KWASNEY (a.k.a. RING?)
