Cook b. 04/19/1824 d. 1875 Gilbert Cook was born on the 3rd of June 1783.Family tradition says that he was originally from Hartford, Connecticut, from seafaring people, and ran away from home when he was young. However, no proof of this tradition has been established.By 1803, Gilbert had migrated to North Carolina settling in Lumberton, Robeson County, where he met and married Elizabeth Brown. They married on the 7th of October 1803.All of their children were born in North Carolina.Sometime between 1824 and 1826, Gilbert and his family migrated to Mississippi (Copiah County) arriving there by 1827. I am descended from William Wallace Cook and have lots of information on many of his siblings but am always looking for new information.I would greatly appreciate any information regarding Gilbert Cook's parents and siblings. I also have the following book, "Hazlehurst, Copiah County, Its Early Settlers and Families" Edited by Hartwell Cook (no relation) that I am willing to do lookups from so please contact me. |
