Will of Robert Hart 23 June 1720 probated 20 July 1720:
To son, William, all my land and Plantation on the main Blackwater Swamp
excepting one, also a negroThe first child of sd. negro to go to my
grandson, Robert Hart, also two other negroes.Son William to bring up son,
Thomas to as much learning as he has himself and give him half a gross of
bottles, 2 stone jugs, and a fifth part of all linen in the house.To
son,Robert, all my land and plantation on thee other side of ye Middle Branch
is ye Isle of Wight Co. a negro, a big brass kettle, one doz. bottles, and 60
yards of Ozenburg, if Robert have no heir then to go to his youngest brother.
To my daughter, Ann, one piece of Dowlas, 20 or 30 ells, and to each of her
sons a cow and calf, to my sd. daughter, Ann, one negro girl and a dozen
To my daughter Elizabeth, 25 lbs. current money of VA to buy a negro, and the
cattle on my plantation called here, one doz. bottles, etc. and one new
To daughter, Sarah, one negro, but if she have no heir to her two youngest
sisters, and all the cattle on the plantation called hers, and one dozen
To daughters, Mary and Priscilla, one negro each.
To son, Thomas, one negro and my Plantation I live on with all the land
belonging in the county of Surry, and my Plantation on the other side of the
main Swamp whereon Richard Mizel now dwells, bounded by the Spring Branch and
Gwaltney's line and the main Swamp, also a steer, bed, furniture, etc. to be
equally divided between him and my grandson, Robert Hart, and son, Thomas pay
him 10 lbs. at 18 and also his whole estate at 18 years old.Wife, Priscilla,
one negro for her life.All the remainder of estate to be divided.
