The NELL's of Kentucky
Interest in my family began with a letter given to me by my grandmother and written by my paternal great-grandmother, Lucetta EDWARDS NELL, written in 1918 in Gradyville (Adair County), KY.In it, she gave a description of the "original" John NELL and a genealogy listing as she knew it. From this letter I began tracing my family.You will find no Nobel Prize winners here, no individuals who have made earth-shattering discoveries; rather you will find physicians and farmers, merchants and teachers and yes, a family share of black sheep.This is a story of the kind of family who came to America early in its history and who helped to make it what it is today.These are "salt of the earth", hard-working men and women who raised their families with love and guidance.The individuals in this history fought in wars when called upon, healed the sick and fed the community.Some migrated west and some stayed in Adair County.I am sixth generation from the same county - quite an accomplishment in view of the mo | The NELL's of Kentucky Updated September 5, 2000 |
