Koeck Family of South Dakota
Welcome to the Koeck Family Home Page.I am working on the descendants of Leopold Koeck who came to America in 1894 from Heinrichsbrunn, Germany. The information I have is based on notes from previous relatives and word of mouth.Any and all corrections are greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me to discuss or volunteer information. We all lead busy lives and it seems I do not always have the time deserving for a project of this magnitude.I have some pictures for some of the previous generations and would appreciate any others that someone may have to contribute. I grew up in Miller, South Dakota and now live in Honolulu, Hawaii. My two brothers live on the family farm.Dad and his two brother farmed in Midland and Greenleaf townships in Hand County of South Dakota. The next generations have taken over the farming and ranching operations. Below are 3 outline reports that I have included. The first one is my Great Grandfather Leopold Koeck and his decendants. The second one is from my paternal Grandmother Mathilda Frances Schaefers Koeck. This would be the information I have on her family. She is listed in the seventh generation from Edmund Scheiffers. The third report will have most recently updated info through the Koeck family.Other family was updated but may not show on this report.Bear with me on my updating skills. I hope you all still feel free to contact me with update information as well as requesting any type of report you might want. I can customize to go forward or backward from any one person on the file. Going forward allows other marriages and includes all children while going backward only links to parents but no siblings. Obviously for this reason, the forward reports are larger but can print them out and scan them back in to email to whomever requests them. Another endeavor I took on was taking photos of the head stones in the cemeteries around Hand County pertaining to the relatives in this file. I dont have them all uploaded yet but they will be coming in another upload. Also, some of the head stones are not in the best of shape and if anyone wants to contribute to the repair of these stones, I can give you the specifics of whose is in worst shape and you can go from there. It appears that some family members around the 1940-1950's replaced some stones from the early 1900's. I only say this because the quality of head stone from the 1900's does not match what is presently on the grave site. I truly respect those that went back and updated or provided a head stone for those from generations gone by. Another tid bit about the head stones in the St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Miller, Hand County, South Dakota. There is a plot of 6 Koeck family members with head stones on 4 of them. The other 2 plots have 2 bodies buried in them but the caskets are turned the wrong way. Instead of laying east and west, the caskets are turned north and south. The cemtery caretaker knows these are unmarked but also knows the plots are taken. They were the bodies of 2 younger children but again, no one knows who they truly are. At least they are not on the plot map that the care taker has. I may have to do some research with the priest in the church to get some answers. UPDATE 10/10/2012 I posted previously that I was no longer using Family Tree Maker but using a free Mormon program instead. I have put that program aside and I am back to Family Tree Maker since majority of genologists seem to be using that program. Also, it provides a web hosting site to place family history information on. It can still be kept private for individuals still alive. I truly appreciate any and all contact with information about relatives already on this tree as well as those that need added. I have a form that I can print up and send or email to anyone that has information. It simply asks questions and you fill in the necessary blanks.
