William Hammond was born in a place called Slymbridge, Yorkshire, England. William Hammond and Benedictus, his wife, of Wells, County of Yorke, in New England, planter, deeded lands June 17, 1661, to Bryan Pendleton, of Portsmouth, in the County of Norfolke, in New England. (York Deeds, Book I, folio 108.)
He was admitted freeman in Wells, Me., July 5, 1653. (N. E. Hist. Gen. Register, Vol. 3, p. 193.)
