Shari, We reported in my friend's book that the following children of Risdon DeFord were probably born of Elizabeth Hennessy: Anne E.; Martha J.; Mary G.; Rebecca A.; John James; Lydia E.; William H.; and Risden Washington. No information could be found concerning a daughter, Ida L. We concluded that she may have died at a young age. All of the above--with the exception of Ida--were born in PA. Four more children of Risdon were born in Missouri: George Washington (1870); John (1874); Daniel (1877) and Henry (1880). Goodspeed's History of South-East Missouri reports that Risdon married Nancy Williams in 1875. (Indeed, per the 1880 census of Stoddard County, MO, Risdon's wife was Nancy.) Thus I assume that Daniel and Henry were born of Nancy--then a young woman born in 1857 per 1880 census records.
One problem should be noted. You've probably seen Goodspeeds History of South-East Missouri which states that Risdon married Eliza Jane Bannister in 1845. This is certainly erroneous--because according to both 1850 and 1860 census data, Risdon's wife was recorded as Elizabeth.
I am only speculating--but it seems to me that there may have been a typo in Goodspeeds and that he married Eliza Jane Bannister in the late 1860's--and that she was the mother of the first two children born in Missouri: George Washington and John. (When I prepared the book for her which she gave to family members for Christmas, our primary concern was proof of her line: Risdon Washington, James W., James Patrick, and Warren Cylvester.
Further checking of the Goodspeed's bio reveals that per this source, Eliza Jane Bannister bore two children: Ida L. and George Washington. This source does not mention his first marriage to Elizabeth Hennessy! So, good luck!
James W. was my friend's great-grandfather. If you don't mind copying the record, I know she would love to have it. If you can do that, e-mail me off the forum and I'll send you her address. BTW, your information that Jean and Marie were French Hugenots is correct per our info--as well as other information you cited.
Children of Nancy Davis and Risden Washington Deford are:
- +Edward Deford, b. 1814, Queen Anne, Maryland, d. Abt. 1850, Callensburg, Pennsylvania.
