|The LaPeer (or Lapeer, Lapierre) Family in Michigan predates statehood.Currently, the earliest known LaPeer ancestor is my gg-grandfather, THEOPHILE LAPIERRE.Theophile was born in Canada and married my gg-grandmother, MARGARET (MARGUERITE) McGULPIN on Mackinac Island about 1836.They lived on the island for several years, raising a large family. As the children grew, all left the island, many settling in the nearby counties of Cheboygan, Emmet and Charlevoix and starting families of their own.Theophile and Margaret, also left the island in their latter years moving to Cheboygan County.Today, a reminder of the simple beginnings of the LAPEERS in Michigan can be visited atMackinac Island State Park on Mackinac Island.McGULPIN HOUSE, once owned by WILLIAM McGULPIN, Margaret's father, has been restored. She was likely born there and Theophile and Margaret likely visited there many times.|
In addition to the LAPEER, LAPIERRE surnames, I am also researching my maternal surnames: FORD and MORGAN from Stewart County, TN and other paternal surnames: VOROUS (VOORUS, VAN VOORHEIS) from Fish Creek, Door County, WI and WAGLEY from Emmet County, MI.Any help or inquires would be appreciated. Thank you!
