Italy -- Home of popes and painters, poets, pasta, polenta and mighty peculiar politics. Also, birthplace of my ancestors.
I am researching the roots of my family. Paternal lineage goes from my father Sinesio Lavarda to his parents: Antonio Lavarda (or Laverda, originally) and Angela Rodighiero. Maternal goes from my mother Albina Galvan to her parents: Giovanni Galvan and Theresa Bozzetto.
Both my parents, as well as all grandparents and beyond, were born in the Veneto region of Italy, near its central city, Vicenza. The Veneto region derives its name from its association to its most important city, Venice. Other important towns include Padova, Verona and Marostica.
However, it was the smaller towns in the area that were popularly referred to by relatives in their stories as I grew up. These include such towns and hamlets as Breganze, San Giorgio, Salcedo and Fara.
Any leads or other information you can offer will be most appreciated, especially since I just visited Northern Italy for the first time in early October 1999. Of course, any information I can provide you will also be my pleasure to share.
