|I am researching my DUSTIN family lines in MA., NH., VT., and Quebec, Canada. We are descendants of Thomas DUSTIN and Hannah EMERSON of Haverhill, MA. Our branch of DUSTINs moved from Ma to NH on to the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada and finally back to MA.While in Canada the family married into the MCLACHLAN, TURNER,RYDER, OSBORN, and VOSBURGH families.|
I am also researching my mother's line of ROI dit KING from Nova Scotia, Canada. Her line is both Acadian, and through her mother's families of REDDEN and ROBINSON, Irish and English.
I have not had much luck with my husband's LAWLESS line. We do know that Martin LAWLESS arrived in Boston in 1850-51, having been born in Rahune, Galway, Ireland in 1814. His wife was Bridget WELCH. The family married into the URANN family which brought in many of the early colonial lines, such as THAYER, EMMES,and SLOPER in the Boston area.
Between the two sides of our family we have found descent from Native Americans, Kings, Queens, a colonial heroine(Hannah DUSTIN) and at least one Boston Tea Party participant. While these facts make the research interesting, it is the little anecdotes about our lesser known ancestors that breath life into our family history. The fact that Grampy Dustin stole his bride to be, Geraldine MCLAUGHLIN, right off her front porch and spirited her away to be married against her father's will, is much more interesting to me than the fact that the same Grampy Dustin is a descendant of William The Conqueror.
If you feel that you might have a connection to any of these families, please contact me. I will be glad to share what information I have and I'd certainly welcome anything you might be able to add.
