Notes for SUSAN MARY NARD:
1.It has been stated that Susan Nard was Indian (possibly Cherokee or Choctaw). As of November, 1999, this hasn't been proven. She is not listed in any of the National Archive files on line.It has also been said that she made an attempt to register with the Five Civilized Tribes in 1890.They requested more information and she died in 1892 before she could return with the necessary papers. It appears that her brother Joseph did receive both his and Susan's land allotment in Choctaw Territory somewhere around Haskell Co.Charley Mooneyham constantly referred to himself as a "half-breed".
2.All of the children said that Susan Nard was an Indian. However, all of the available birth certificates say that she was White. This could have been due to the stigma of the children not wanting to be referred to as "half-breeds" before the Indian Nations people were made full US citizens sometime around 1940 - 1950.
