1865 Registration of the names of persons Who have taken the Amnesty oath before the Probate Judges of DeSoto County Mississippi as prescribed in the Proclamation of President Andrew Johnson on the 29th May 1865 and the Proclamation of 1st July 1865 of W. L. Sharkey Provisional Governor of the State of Mississippi, the said oath as follows
(To Wit -)
I . . . do solemnly swear (or affirm) in the presence of Almighty God that I will hereafter faithfully - support - protect - and defend the Constitution of the United States and the union of the States thereunder and that I will in like manner abide by and faithfully support all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion with reference to the Emancipation of slaves, So help me God, (and to the officers of the County were added to this oath the words after Slaves) "and will discharge the duties of my office to the best of my ability"
