|I am just getting into doing this research again, after a twenty year break.Back to my great-grandparents the lines are Black, Burgess, Clouse, Hazel, Hawk, Johnson, Lowery and Young.Indiana, Kentucky and Virginia seem to be the main locations, with the possibility of Georgia for the Lowery line thrown in.|
Right now, my biggest stumbling blocks are in the Black and Hawk lines. Both of my great-grandmothers on my mother's side seem to have come from nowhere.Elizabeth A. Black and Lucy Hawk were both in Orange Co., IN in the mid to late 1800's but I have yet to find much information about them.
My main goal is to take as many lines as possible back to the foreign countries from whence they came. Will I be satisfied if I do that?Probably not as the other countries will have records further back than here.Maybe it will get easier then??
With the release of the 1920/1930 (I thought it was supposed to be 75 years?anyway...) censuses, I've decided to track my ancestors via those, as now my parents are showing up.I found my father--he was a baby then, it's kinda neat to realize that it was written when he was so young (he was born in Dec., 1919, so he was ~6 months old when the census was taken). However, I do believe my mom's father was extremely shy when it came to the census.I have not been able to find him in either the 1900, 1910, nor 1920 census. This is through indexes, as I've yet to have the time to go page by page, though I'm working on that.I'm aware that indexes aren't perfect, but I find it difficult to believe that he's been missed in each and every index. Thus far, I've checked every instance of his name in each index.Does anyone else out there have a shy ancestor?*laugh*
Woo Hoo!!Finally found Mom's family in the census, at least the 1930 one!!!They're exactly where I expected to find them, too.Still working my way, page by page, through the 1920 one.Very tedious, especially when one only has a dial-up connection.Easier than microfiche/film, though.
There are more details about my family here:http://www.lowerymeetsburgess.com.Visit this site for contact information, as well. Thanks!
