| We are attempting to find information on the Leahey and Cotter families from Ireland. We have quite a bit of information on the Lundin family from Sweden and would be happy to share.Our Lundin connections arrived in the US in the early 1890's and changed the name at that time from Anderson to Lundin. My great-grandfather Matthew Leahey supposedly met and married Mary Cotter in about 1871 in St. Louis.Family history states that they were from County Cork, but met in St. Louis. Mary's brother was a Richard Cotter, who was a "man of all work" who accompanied Clarence King on his ascent of Mount Whitney.Family lore had told us that he had climbed Pike's Peak in the original party with Pike.However, Pike's party apparently did not climb the Peak and if he had, it would have been well before Richard was born!I believe Richard died in Chicago in 1926.Again, that is totally unconfirmed family lore. Matthew and Mary died in 1904 and 1905 in St. Louis. I have more detail regarding dates, etc. but will have to add it at a later time. | |
