Jacob ANTLE, Sr (son of Henry ANTLE, Sr and Mary ABRELL) was born 1782 in BERKELY CO. WEST VIRGINIA, and died 27 Feb 1851 in RUSSELL CO., KENTUCKY.He married Katherine HELM on 1802 in RUSSELL CO., KENTUCKY, daughter of Henry HELM and Barbara EVERHART. Notes for Jacob ANTLE, Sr: Jacob Antle , lived in the area around Louisville. He was a millwright by trade, and he traveled about the country building or repairing grist mills. He would find a likely place on a stream, dam it up, build a mill, and sometimes operate it for a while then sell it and move on to repeat the process. My Grandfather,Rev. John R. Antle, Worked with his father in this business while he was a young man still living at home. I do not know whether it was through the gristmill business or through his church work that brought him farther south in Kentucky where he met and married my grandma. Bread was an important part of the frontier diet. communities grew up around the gristmill. Everyone raised his own grain, took it to the mill and gave a portion of it to the miller to pay for the grinding. Women in our family have always taken pride in baking fine breads and pastries. This tradition is still carried on today. Although the supermarkets are full of all kinds of breads, our youngsters still prefer Mom's homemade bread. History of Cumberland, By J. W. Wells, Standard Printing, c1947, P. 19 Lists Jacob Antle received a Military Grant of 100a 1806, located on West Fork of Black Creek.
