Jesse Hyatt Getty (b. 07 Dec 1849, d. 13 Jul 1939)
Notes for Jesse Hyatt Getty:
Jesse H. Getty's family came to the United States from Ireland in 1811.
Census records show his father was born in Ireland and his mother was
born in Virginia.
After researching many ship manifests from Ireland for the year 1811, I have foundonly one Getty:A James Getty arrived in New York from Belfast on November 30,1811 on the Brig Hibernia.
While I cannot confirm that this was Jesse Getty's father, in the Cemetery in Clinton,Iowathere is buried along with Jesse's Uncle Agnew Getty, one James Getty whodied in January of 1867.
Agnew Getty age 80 Uncle born in Ireland was listed as living with the Getty's on the
1880 census for Clinton Co Iowq
Also in Clinton Co Iowa is a cemetery (though located in another township) where I have found many Gettys buried:I believe they are Jesse's family.
Miller Cemetery Elk River Twp, Clinton co Iowa
Getty, Ellen d. 17 Sept 1859(Jesse's Mother , Aunt, Sister or cousin?)
Anna d. 20 Jan 1857 (Jesse's Mother , Aunt, Sister or cousin?)
Getty, William d. 17 Nov 1855 (Jesse's Father , Uncle, Brother or cousin?)
Samuel d. 11 Feb 1855(Jesse's Father , Uncle, Brother or cousin?)
James d. Jan 1867 (Jesse's Father , Uncle, Brother or cousin?)
Getty,Agnew d. 19 Dec 1883(uncle listed in 1880 census - Age 83)
Getty,Samuel d. 16 Sept 1874(Child of Jesse and Mary Getty? Brother or Cousin?)
From this information I believe the follow may be inferred -
Either Ellen or Anna could have been Jesse's mother - the other a possible aunt or sister. I lean toward Ellen being his Mother as Jennie Getty and Hazel McCullough both have Ellen as middle names.
William, Samuel and James could all possibly be the father of Jesse H Getty. (Although they also could be uncles, brothers or cousins)
I rather think that James was the father, based on the information I found on the 1811 passenger manifest of the ship Hibernia)
The Samuel Getty d. 1874 may have one of the 2 unknown brothers of Jennie Getty as mentioned in her obituary.
Any of the above individuals (except Uncle Agnew)may have been Agnew's siblings, children or spouses.
Additionally these burial dates would indicate that the Gettys came to Iowa sometime before 1855 (earliest date) when Jesse was a small child.
