"Richard B. Newnham, 77
Richard B. Newnham, 77, a Saugatuck resident for many years, died January 30, in Sedona, Ariz. As a young man he was assistant engineer on an ore boat on the Great Lakes for about seven years. He later owned and operated the Chevrolet Garage in Saugatuck on the site of the Gourmet Shop. He later operated Newnham's Service Station, now Ihle's Service Station, on the Blue Star Highway, north of Saugatuck, He retired in 1958 and moved to Arizona. He was married to Jenny Johnson of Fennville who died in 1960. In 1962 he was married to Elsie Christensen, who died in 1970. He was a member of the Saugatuck Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star and a past master of the Saugatuck Masonic Lodge. Surviving are two sons, Richard B. Newnham, Jr., and Paul Newnham, both of Scottsdale, Ariz., two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Bessie Neal of Harvey, Ill., and several neices and nephews. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dykstra Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Rae of Grand Rapids officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under the auspices of the Saugatuck Masonic Lodge."
