"Services set for Allegan Detective
Funeral services will by Monday in Otsego for David James Deneau, 35, an Allegan County Sherriff's Department detective who died Friday morning after suffering an apparent heart attack in his Otsego home. Deneau, of 718 Kay St., had been with the Sheriff's Department for eight years, rising from road patorl to the detective bureau two years ago. As a detective, he was assigned to cases primarily on the east side of the county, said Detedtive Lt. Rick Cain. Off duty, he enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors. Deneau graduated from Otsego High School in 1972 before attending Kalamazoo Valley Community College's police certification program. He was valedictorian of his police academy class in 1980. Deneau worked with the Parchment Police Department as a patrolman before coming to Allegan. Visitation for Deneau will be at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. funeral services will be at 1:30p.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church of Otsego. Interment will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Deneau was born March 4, 1954 in Kalamazoo, the son of James and Burtie (Rice) Deneau, who survive him. Also surviving are his wife, Cheryl, and three children, Christopher, David Jr. and Jenifer, all at home; two brothers; his grandmothers and several autnts and uncles. Memorial contributions can be made to his children's educational fund through First of America Bank in Otsego."
