Sylvester Churchill (son of Joseph Churchill and Sarah Cobb) was born August 02, 1783 in Woodstock, Vermont, and died December 07, 1862 in Washington, D.C..He married Lucy Hunter on Abt. August 30, 1812 in Windsor, Vermont. Notes for Sylvester Churchill: Sylvester moved from Woodstock to Windsor, Vermont and established the "Vermont Republican" with Oliver Farnsworth in 1809.They also owned a book and print shop.Sylvester married Lucy Hunter at Windsor either on July or August 30, 1812.At the time of his marriage, Sylvester was a Lt. in the Third Regiment U.S. Artillary.He was commissioned in 1812, passing through various ranks of promotion in the line and in the staff until he became Inspector General and Brigadier General by brevet.Besides serving in the War of 1812, he served in the Mexican War and was in the Battle of Buena Vista with Gen. Taylor.General Churchill was known as a brave soldier and an officer who observed and maintained strict discipline.He died at Washington, and is buried in National Cemetery.
