Notes for Temperance Bailey:
Temperance Bailey was the eldest daughter of Cecily, who arrived in Viriginia in 1610 and earned the distinction of Ancient Planter. Her father's name is not known but he died when Temperance was very young. Her mother remarried twice during Temperance's childhood; to Samuel Jordan about 1620, and secondly to William Farrar about 1625. Temperance was probably born on the Bailey families plantation bordering that of Samuel Jordan. She grew up at both Jordan's Journey and Farrar's Island, where she lived until she married. Temperance Bailey is listed on two censuses of early Virginia colonists, taken in 1623 and 1624/5 after the deaths of both her own father and her first step-father Samuel Jordan, listing her mother, half-sister Mary Jordan, half-sister Margaret Jordan, and future step-father William Farrar:
