September - October 1863 in Wisconsin, and died May 26, 1909 in Hermansville. Michigan. He married Mary Ellen Sullivan on May 26, 1884, daughter of Daniel Sullivan and Catherine Fitzgerald.
Notes for Edward McArthey:
Edward was the last child of Charles and Sarah. When he was born, the oldest, Mary, was sixteen. He grew up on the farm in Francis Creek where he met Mary Ellen Sullivan, who was born and raised in the neighboring community of Kussuth. He married her on May 26, 1884. Edward and Mary had nine children.
Shortly after they were married they moved to Oconto where Mary's parents and family had relocated. Their first child, Charles Lawrence, was born there on July 29, 1885. As was the family custom, he was named after his paternal grandfather. The boy is referred to in his grandmother Sarah's letter of May 9, 1887.
The second child, a daughter named Elizabeth (Lizzie), was born in Oconto on July 10, 1886 and died the next day. She was buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. In September, 1895, her maternal grandfather, Daniel Sullivan, was buried with her. In November of 1908, her maternal grandmother, Catherine, was buried in the same plot.
In 1888, Edward and Mary, along with their infant son, Charles, moved to Hermansville, Michigan, where Edward probably worked in the sawmill business. The second son, Herbert Louis, was born there on July 25, 1888.
Sometime before 1890, the family moved to Campbellsport, which is near Francis Creek, and had a second daughter, Grace Mary, who was born on August 10.
By 1892 they were in Fort Howard, Wisconsin where another daughter, Edith Sarah, was born on September 23.
A short time later the family was back in Oconto and lived in an area called "French Town". Here they stayed for about ten years or more and had three more children. Charlotte was born on March 19, 1895, and baptized 10 days later at St. Joseph's Catholic Church by Father P.J. Lochman. The sponsors were David Sullivan and Caroline Bradly. George Dewey was born on May 3, 1898 and baptized 12 days later in the same church. The sponsors were Charles Herbert McCarthy, his cousin, and Addie Pecan. Geneva Ellen was born on June 19, 1899 and baptized "Helen Genevieve" on June 22. Again, Father Lochman had the honor. The sponsors were Michael Lighe and her aunt, Charlotte Bradley (McCarthy).
About 1901 the family moved, once again, back to Hermansville, where Edward had obtained employment with the Wisconsin Land and Lumber Company. The final child, Byron Edward, was born there on August 16, 1905.
Edward was the night foreman for the company when he was killed by falling logs on May 26, 1909, his wedding anniversary. At the time of his death, the two oldest boys, Charles and Herbert, were working as fireman for the North Western Railroad out of Escanaba, Michigan. The other six children were at home. Edward was buried initially in the Oconto Catholic Cemetery. In August of 1938 his body was moved to Escanaba.
The Company owned the family home and after Edward's death they were "asked" to leave. Mary took the children to Escanaba where she lived on south 8th street. She died there on September 13, 1938, and was buried, with Edward, at Holy Cross Cemetery.
