In 1850, Rachel Meyer Walter, a Jewish Bavarian immigrant, created a Baltimore Album quilt commemorating the Mexican-American War.I became fascinated with this beautiful quilt which features exotic flowers, animals and two Baltimore heros of the Mexican-American War, Capt. Samuel Ringold and Lt. Col William Watson. The quilt is extremely fragile and is badly deteriorated but with the generous help of the Maryland Historical Society, I began to recreate Rachel's quilt. The more I worked on her quilt, the more I began to wonder who really was Rachel Meyer, so my search to find her began.I have found many of her descendents but her parents and heritage are still elusive.I hope through this website I may find other family members who know Rachel's story. As I complete parts of the quilt I will post pictures of the blocks.I hope everyone who visits this site enjoys seeing this quilt as much as I have.
