The McClellan and Coop Families Page
Updated September 6, 2000Currently researching the MCCLELLAN and COOP families, as well as the WRIGHT family. Would be willing to share any information to interested parties, and would appreciate information dealing with the lineage of Gen. George B. McClellan, and the Wright family of the Litchfield Illinois area. An unverified common ancestor with Gen. McClellan has been mentioned in some family records, but not documented. My Coop ancestry is known back to William Kupe, who is believed to have resided in Worms, Germany in the early 1700's..He had two sons, David and John, who both came to America prior to the Revolution.David fought in the Battle of Brandywine and was present with Gen. Washington at Cornwallis' surrender. He later was awarded land in Green County, VA for his service. His son John, lived in VA, then later moved to Fairfield, Iowa and had a large family.I have some information about the Wright family indicating they originated in Scotland, and came to London, England about 1612.William Wright is the first ancestor I have record of in America. My information on him is suspect, but seems to indicate he came to this country at the age of 18, during (?) the Revolutionary War.His descendants lived in Tennessee and Kentucky, later moving to the Litchfield, Illinois area.I have only recently begun to research the McClellan line, but believe that the earliest immigrant was a Charles McClellan, who came to America from Scotland in the mid 1700's.Please note that my ancestry is only of the original 'MCCLELLAN' spelling, and NOT the shortened version of 'MCCLELLAND', which is a different line. | |
