I am researching the McDougle / McDougal / McDougald family in the Southeastern United States. I have information going back to my 4th great-grandfather, Daniel McDougle Sr, his wife, Sarah, and their children, Elizabeth McDougle Wooten, Nancy McDougle, John McDougle (my 3rd great-grandfather), Miles E. McDougle, Daniel McDougle Jr, Alexander McDougle and Sarah McDougle Carnes.
Daniel, Sarah and family were in South Carolina in the early 1800's and Daniel was either dead or had left the family by 1820, leaving his wife to raise their family.Sarah was listed as the head of household in 1820 Pendleton County, SC and moved her family across the state line into Habersham County, Georgia in the mid 1820's.Sarah was again the head of household in the 1830 Habersham County, GA.
My 3rd great-grandfather, John McDougle, was born 12/24/1806 and died 5/25/1876 in Lumpkin County, Georgia. He was in Lumpkin County from at least 1840 until his death. He was married to Sarah Gaddis, born 12/24/1813, died 6/13/1897. Their children wereJoseph, Sidney, James C., John M. (my 2nd great-grandfather), Benjamin, Green Sherman and Sarah E. McDougle. Most of them stayed in Georgia, some went to Alabama and beyond.
Other names I am interested in at this time are Gaddis, Wooten, Carnes, McCrary and Grizzle. Any information you have on any of these families would be greatly appreciated.
