MacLeod: -from the Coigach area of the Parish of Lochbroom/Ross & Cromarty, Scotland.Most of the family stayed in Scotland as far as I know, but the daughter of my 2nd Grt. Grandfather (Murdoch MacLeod known locally as "The Soldier") emigrated to New Zealand.Her name was Hughina MacLeod, she married Murdoch MacLean. They emigrated with two children in 1858, six more children were born in New Zealand.I suspect others of this family emigrated, but have not been able to prove it as yet.
MacDonald: - from the Isle of Skye, mostly from the Parish of Sleat/Inverness.Again most remained in Scotland, but family history says that siblings of my grt. Grandmother, Janet MacDonald, born abt. 1833 in the Parish of Sleat, Isle of Skye emigrated to Australia.Her parents were Donald MacDonald, b. abt. 1800, Skye and Janet McKinnon, b. abt. 1805, Parish of Strath/Skye/Inverness.Family history says they came to Skye from the Shiant Islands.Have not been able to prove this.
Other names in this tree are: Gillies, Nicolson, MacPherson and Robertson.
McCraine & Darroch: - from the Isle of Jura/Argyll.Many McCraines and Darroch's emigrated to the U.S., New Zealand & Australia, but my family remained on Jura.My grandmother, Margaret (Maggie) McCraine, b. Sept. 29, 1858, m. Murdoch MacLeod Jan. 17, 1878. He was a mason, employed bulding the distillery on Jura.He came from the village of Polbain, Coigach, Lochbroom/Ross & Cromarty, and took Margaret back to Polbain after they were married. Margaret's parents were Alexander McCraine and Mary Darroch.They lived and died in Caigenhouse, Jura.Alexander's parents were Archibald McCraine b. abt. 1785 & Isabella McIsaac b. abt. 1787. Other names associated with this line are McLellan, Keith and Shaw.
MacDonald:- Isle of Tyree/Argyll.My grandmother was born June 25, 1852, Tyree.She married Donald MacDonald (from Sleat/Skye)July 11, 1884.Her father Allan MacDonald, was a schoolmaster in the Sandaig area of the Isle of Tyree.Other names connected with this line are MacLean and MacKinnon.
