I suspect John McCarty is a Nephew of David McCarty.David abt 19 yrs old when John is born.John's daughters, Abigail and Rebecca (twins) went to Albany to stay with Andrew McCarty and married Van Rensselaer brothers, Schuyler and Sanders, moving to Ohio about the time Abraham McCarty (Andrew's son) moved to Ohio (1828).
Per "Some Voices from Ye Olden Time", by Thomas Hamilton Murray (1904);Mother died shortly after Capt. John McCarty lost at sea in 1804, children moved to Albany, NY to live with McCarty family relatives. (Children would be about 15,12,10 and 10)
