|I am trying to find out who the real Thomas McMEANS is for the purpose of establishing where he came from and what were his origins.Thomas No.1 is the son of William McMeans who came from Co. Cavan, Ireland in 1711.Settled n Lancaster Pennsylvania, resettled in Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, died 1747 and is buried at Silver Springs, Pennsylvania. No other information on this Thomas.|
Thomas No. 2 came to America in 1772 as an indentured apprentice.Landed in New Jersey with his brother Robert.According to Pennsylvania German Records.See "Passenger and Immigration List Index" McMeans, page 1403. A "Thomas McMeans" and a "Robert McMeans" came to America in 1772, landing in East New Jersey.Ref to 7207 which is "The Penn German Society Proceedings and Addresses " Vol. 16 (1909), See "Record of Indentures of Individuals Bound Out as Apprentices, etc.", Oct 3, 1771 to Oct 5, 1773".
Thomas No. 3 settled in East Tennessee in 1786 and in accordance with family lore was born in Ireland. He was married and had 8 children. He is the progenitor of my line in Alabama. He was the Schoolmaster of Jefferson Co., Tennessee and his will was dated 20 Feb 1804.According to the North Carolina Archives, Thomas McMeans served as a Private in the American Revolution and was paid.No additional information. My problem is, which one of the former two McMeans is the Tennessee McMeans?Or, is he the third Thomas from somewhere?
