Departed this life, March first 1840, Peter Patrick McCormmack, of
Jefferson county, MO., aged eighty seven years, being confined to his bed only
four days. He continued sensible to the last, rejoicing in hope of his enjoying
eternal happiness, fully resigned to leave this mortal state. The deceased was
a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for a series of years and left a
numerous off spring of children and grandchildren in a comfortable situation of
life to whom he always gave good advice and set a pious example - He was born
in Dublin (Ireland) his father was a Scotchman who emigrated in early life to
America - entered as a soldier in the Revolutionary War - served under
Washington and Wayne and though entitled to a pension, his independent spirit
and comfortable living kept him from ever applying for the same - Our country
by his death has lost a worthy citizen a loyal patriot, the militant a worthy
member. But he, we are insured, has joined the church triumphant which is the
happy consolation of his surviving friends and relatives.
