|Patrick Golden was born in Ireland in 1820 he immigrated to America and settled in Schuylkill County, PA around 1850, Hemarried Mary Mellet on June 9, 1853 in Pottsville, PA.|
Patrick a coal miner, purchased a home on Walnut Street in Ashland, Pa they lived there from 1853-1873, attending St. Josephs Catholic Church.
In 1873 he purchased a home at 311 E Lloyd St. in Shenandoah. He was the father of 11 children before his death on December 14, 1874. His children included Mary, Bridget, Thomas, Patrick J., Henry, Ellen T., Catherine, Martin J. and William L. along with two other children who died in infancy.Catherine, Martin and Thomas moved to Philadelphia. William and Henry moved to Washington State. Bridget Golden Kilty, Mary Golden O'Donnel and Patrick Golden who married Mary Whalen stayed in Shenandoah.
Most of the men worked in the coal mines at one time or another and or worked for the Great Northern Railroad. His son Patrick was a bookkeeper. Mary and Catherine both became teachers.
Mary Mellet Golden was born in Ireland in April 1903. Her family settled in place called Darkwater Patch near Pottsville, Pa.in the early 1850's. She was 35 years old at the time of her husbands death. I have heard stories told of her sitting on her front porch in the rocking chair smoking her stoggie. She died at the age of 63. Her parents were Henry and Bridget Mellet
I am a descendent of Patrick and Marys' son William Leo Golden born July 17, 1874. William left home at a young age, traveled to the Yukon Territory with his older brother Henry in search of gold. They later worked their way out west via the Great Northern Railroad, settling in Spokane, Wa in 1904. There he met and married Alice Kate McCloskey, a young 19 year old woman from Sandy Lake, PA. I believe the railroad took them to Oakland, Ca where there first daughter Katerine Mary Golden was born June 1907. They returned to Spokane sometime before 1909.
William Golden and his father in law William Emery McCloskey are listed in the Spokane Directory as working for the Great Northern Railroad from 1904~1921
In 1922 William and Alice moved to Seattle, Wa. William continued to work for the railroad and eventually openned the Seaview Hotel in downtown Seattle. He and was quite successful until the depression hit in the 1930's. He was the father of 6 children Kate, Patrick, Helen, Martin, Margaret and Edward. He died at the age of 71.
I have researched my family history over the past 20 years and have been unable to locate Patrick Goldens parents, or retrace his travels to America.
Other surnames included in this line include the following:
Mellet, Conry, Whalen, Kilty (Kelty), O'Donnell, Lally, McCloskey, McLaughlin, Riley, Dietzler & Doyle.
