The MERKELS of Oberkotzau, BY, Germany

After two years of researching my family's roots I have become obsessed with finding as much information as I can about my Grandfather and his awsome journey from Oberkotzau, BY, Germany. He was only 17 years old when his parents put him on a boat to America. His parents were afraid that he would be drafted into the army and may be killed before he had a chance to live a full life. I have been blessed by God to find a friend in Germany that has been willing to do research for me. He lives a few miles from Oberkotzau and has done many things for me at his own expense. I wish to pay tribute to this fine Gentleman Mr. Horst Rosenstock, without whom I would not have been able to collect any of the information that I now have. Thank you Horst. I dedicate this Family Tree to my Father, John Carl Merkel who is now 91 years young, and my Mother Lillian Merkel who is now 86 years young.
I leave this Family Tree to all my children so that they may know their roots and pass them along for generations to come.
