Notes for Duane Stephen Wimmer:
Duane was the middle child in a family of five. He always had a keen interest in Education and became an Elementary teacher in the Grand Co. School District in 1953. He went on to be an ennovated Elementary School Principal and was well liked by students and parents as well.
He was an accomplished craftsman and made many varied items, most generally things relating to Native American and Southwestern motif. His lifetime affection for animals of all kinds have included dogs, birds, rabbits, cats, an alligator, a monkey, snakes, "attack" geese and many more too numerous to mention.
His was an open house to all and everyone, a seldom a month went by that he didn't have someone accepting his hospitality. Besides his artistic abilities, he also had a knack for writing and had several article (which should have been published) based on personal experiences, plus those of others.
Duane served in the U.S. Marines during the second World War and Korea as well. He reached the rank of Sgt and recieved, among other citations, a perple heart and a bronze star. Because of his service, he became quite interested in China and would have liked to go back there, but never made it.
Not quite 6' tall, with msucular build and the typical "Snyder eyes" (large and brown) he retained his youthful attitudes throughout his life. Unfortunately, having smoked during much of his adult life he later developed COPD and was on oxygen during the last years of his life.
