Marriage Notes for Arvel Anderson and Trella Marie Barnhisel:
Story told to Bonnie Anderson by Trella:
"Trella had to find a pen pal as part of her church group project. She was to find out the differences in other religions. She and her family were methodist. She found the name and address of a Baptist minister, Arvel F. Anderson. She communicated with him by mail."
"Arvel F. Anderson proposed marriage to Trella M. Barnhisel the night of October 31, 1924 at the train station in Akron Indiana. She did not tell her mother or sister. Her best friend was the only one who knew. Arvel and Trella went to the county seat and got their marriage license. Arvel called a preacher and they went to the preacher's home on Christmas Day 1924 to be married. Then they went to Trella's mothers house and told her they were married and had Christmas dinner. They left the next day."
