The search for my ancestors was handed down to me from my mother Ruth I. Garrison who was trying to help my father John Mothkovich search for his parents Ana Bakic and Joseph Matkovic. My father was separated from his parent's in early childhood. We've trace the ancestry of Ana Bakic to Dugo Selo, Croatia. We're still searching to find out what happened to Joseph Matkovic who disappeared from my father's life between 1918 and 1920.Tragically, after Joseph disappeared while the family was in Iowa or Kansas City, Ana was diagnosed with Tuberculosis.. her children were place with foster families and Ana died alone without her family in Sunnyslope Sanitorium, Ottumwa, Iowa in 1923.My father John Mothkovich, was 9 years old when his mother was sent away, and he never saw either parent alive again. His brother Daniel was sent to live with a family named Flynn, and only by miraculous coincidence did they reunite years later in Rockford, IL.
