Owned Slusher Battery and Electric Service of Macomb.He attended Willis schools through eight grade. He moved in 1914 to Blandinsville, Ill., area where he farmed for Gilbert Argenbright in Hire Township until enlisting in the Army in 1917.He served two years with the 339th Field Artillery during World War I in France and England.He returned home to Willis for a short time before attending the University of Southern Minnesota.He married Wilma Carlile in 1926 in Peoria, Ill., and moved to Macomb that same year, buying an auto repair business from Chet Noel at 324 North Lafayette St.For a number of years he also operated a wholesale electrical auto parts business, serving auto dealers and auto repair businesses throughout West Central Illinois and Southeastern Iowa with one truck.This turned out to be a lucrative business during World War II (1942-1945) when parts were scarce and new vehicles were not available.For many parts, such as batteries, carburetors, generators, spark plugs, ignition coils, starters, etc., he was the sole wholesale supplier in that area.His successful business during the war years allowed him to build a new building for his business and buy 221 acres of farmland near Industry, Ill.He operated the farm and the auto repair business until his death.He was a deacon and elder of the Macomb Baptist Church, former member of the Macomb YMCA board of directors, a past director of the Macomb Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the prize-winning drum and bugle corps of Macomb American Legion post.He also was a member of Macomb Kiwanis Club and Macomb Masonic Lodge.POM.
