This project started when I "inherited" 4 suitcases full of photographs from my mother, Rene Octon, in 2007. In amongst the familiar colour photos that I remembered well I came across some black and white photos from the end of the 19th century/early 20th century and I wanted to know who the people in those photos were. Ancestors? Friends of the family? If ancestors, which side of the family were they from? My mother's or my father's?
Before I knew it I was scanning those photos into my computer and asking my mother who those people were. Her memory was a bit hazy at 88 years old but she could remember most of them. I was determined that the photos would not be lost or left in a cupboard somewhere unseen, so I decided to begin this family tree to show the world something of my family's history and to try to bring to life those ancestors who had come before me.
I am indebted to the members of my extended family who have provided the information I have discovered so far, particularly Paul, partner of Rosalind Robinson (nee Leon) who had researched much of the Hill and Robinson family groups in his quest to tell the story of the ancestral lineage for Ethan Robinson. Others include Rene Octon, Joyce Octon, Michael Robinson, Christopher Hill, Eileen Hackney, Edith Watt and Freda Lodge. I hope you will find it interesting.
