I am researching the descendants of Heinrich Oehlers, my great-grandfather, who arrived in Singapore at the middle of the eighteenth century and settled down in this part of the world.
Heinrich Oehlers was born in the town of Itzehoe, in what is now north-western Germany, on 27 Jan 1839 and died in Singapore at the age of seventy.
Of his male children, I have traced a number of his descendants, relatively easy because of the name Oehlers. But his daughters who married, must have returned to Europe (or elsewhere) with their husbands and I have found it difficult to go beyond the first generation in these cases.
Names that I am looking for are Oehlers, Aviet, Shaw, Gush and Finck, all descendants of the first Oehlers to land in Singapore.
One of these days, I will go further back in time.......
