A Missionary Baptist Church was organized on Clark's Creek, in Hart Township, in 1846 or 1847, by Jonathan Owens. Among the members were JOHN FORREST [md. Catherine SANDERS], WILLIAM BARNETT [md. Margaret Jane SANDERS], James SPARKS, SAMUEL McKINLEY [md. Sarah "Sally" SANDERS] and others. Shortly after a log church house was erected. The society may be said to have merged into the Free Will Baptist Church, which now claims about 100 members, known as Mt. Zion Church, who own a large frame building two miles south of where the old house stood. A large school is conducted in the Black Creek settlement, where, in 1843, George W. SPARKS taught a subscription school. --History of Wright Co., MO (Goodspeed, 1889), p.405.

Sam may have been in the family of a Samuel "McKinley" in Knox County, TN in 1830.Sam began paying taxes in Arkansas in 1835.They probably moved to MO shortly after the birth of daughter Catherine.
We first har of Sam in Wright County amoung the founders in 1847 of a Missionary Baptist Church (present Mt. Zion Church).
On Dec. 13, 1853 Sam purchased ($50 cash) 40 acres of land in Clark Township, being the second claimant to land in Township 28, Range 14.He added 80 acres in 1878.
Sam's Clark Township land sold in 1860 and we hear no more of him until he bought a tract of nearly 40 acres in Hart Township from Thomas and Martha J. Randall on present-day Tharp School and Retherford Roads in 1866.He homesteaded an additional 120 acres in 1875.Son Peter added 160 acres in 1878.
Sam, a hunter all of his life, was dead by the time of the 1880 census.
Son Peter never left the family farm and was teh one who settled his father's estate about 1881.THis was accomplished by buying out Sam's orphaned grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Forbes Moody, Jonathan and Billy Moody and James McKindley
