From"Warren County North Carolina Records Volume I", page 16-Bute County,
NC Record Book A (note from Rod-the number 44 appears before "Will of
Joseph HORTON...", and I don't know what that means or refers to, given
that they say the record appears on "page 16", maybe 44 is the page number
from the original record):

David HOUGHTON = David HORTON), Joseph FOLWER, Sr. & the lines of David
COOPER including the Plantation whereon said PRIVITT & Peter PRIVITT now
lives".
251 Warrant Issued-#767. Dec 8, 1778, David HORTON enters 400 acres of land

particular creek) of Little River & Beaver Dam Branch".

Comments from Rod.The records above are presented to demonstrate the
following:
1) Joseph HORTON, will dated 12 Dec 1763 Granville Co., NC had a son named
David HORTON, who in turn had a son Samuel HORTON.
2) Joseph HORTON and his son David HORTON were neighbors or associated with
the ALFORD family, including James ALFORD and Lodwick ALFORD in Granville Co.
3) David HORTON of Wake Co., NC is also a neighbor and associate of the
ALFORD family, including Lodwick ALFORD and Warren ALFORD (I would add that
David HORTON's 1784 Wake Co., NC will mentions son Charles HORTON to
receive at age 21, "plantation whereon I now live of 100-200 acres joining
William VADIN's and Warren ALFORD's lines").David HORTON of Wake Co. also
has a son Samuel (per David's will).
The compilers of these records emphasize the shifting of county boundaries
which can add to confusion.
1764- Granville Co. of 1760 changed to Granville and Bute Co.
1770- Wake Co. formed, with a border contiguous with Bute (later Franklin)
Border not clearly established
1779- Bute Co. changed to Franklin and Warren Co.
The records, together, strongly support that David HORTON who wrote his
will in Wake Co., NC in 1784 is the David HORTON who earlier is in
Granville Co., NC records and who is named as a son in the will of Joseph
HORTON.
I haven't discussed the first part of their (Francis GREGORY and Robert
HORTON's) paper, which examines and rejects the evidence that David HORTON
was the son of John and Elizabeth (LEE) HORTON of the Barnabus HORTON line.
This is the lineage given in "The Hortons in America" (by Adaline Horton
WHITE, Sherman Printing and Binding Co., Seattle, 1929) and "Descendants of
David Horton of North Carolina".Essentially their review of the data
given in these sources shows that there's NO EVIDENCE, other than there
being a David HORTON in Newburgh, Ulster Co., NY records of Feb. 17, 1772
and also later in Wake Co., NC records, to support David HORTON of Wake
Co., NC as being the son of John HORTON.
