| Della was born in Texas and Roland was born in California. Roland worked on the farms in the Imperial Valley to earn money.He could not live at home because his step-mother beat him with pieces of stove wood.Dr. Beauford Seals, a Nazarene preacher, took Roland into his home and Roland learned a great deal about life and the Bible during this time. Roland and Della met in Holtville, CA.They later moved to Escondido, CA where several of their children were born.In 1940 the family moved to Sacramento, CA where Roland worked as a tree surgeon on the grounds of the State Capitol buildings.
